Lucy Alguire

Student Therapist

Lucy comes from a background in fine arts and outdoor adventure. She uses these passions to build bridges between art and life. Lucy has a decade of experience in childcare and has worked with children and teenagers in arts education, and on the ski slopes as an instructor.

Lucy’s approach to therapy is largely psychodynamic and includes an existential and relational approach. Working this way involves carefully weaving the past and present, reality and fantasy, together to generate more self-acceptance, excitement, and personal meaning. Lucy believes that psychological symptoms that cause suffering are often sending us an important message, whether it be about our hidden conflicts, desires, or pain. She also draws on narrative therapy, art therapy, and CBT. Together, the goal is to explore what’s underneath these experienced difficulties in order to connect to the innermost parts of ourselves.

Using creativity, humour, and curiosity, Lucy’s aim is to provide a playful and nonjudgemental space to explore issues related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, perfectionism, identity, sleep, self-esteem, and relationships.

Lucy is currently completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and is doing her placement here, at Toronto Counselling Centre for Teens, from September 2023 to April 2024.

In her downtime, you’ll find Lucy reading at the beach, hiking in the mountains, or working on a photo project.
